1. In the coating of welding rods, if it contains mainly acidic oxides (such as titanium oxide, silica), this type of welding rod is called an acidic welding rod, such as titanium iron type welding rods, titanium-calcium type welding rods, high-titanium type welding rods, iron oxide type welding rods, and cellulose type welding rods; if it contains mainly basic oxides (such as calcium oxide), this type of welding rod is called a basic welding rod, such as low-hydrogen type welding rods primarily composed of carbonates and fluorite.
2. Generally speaking, acidic welding rods have better process performance, but the mechanical properties of the weld metal are poor; while basic welding rods have slightly worse process performance, but the mechanical properties of the weld metal are better. Therefore, when welding general structural components, acidic welding rods are often used; when welding important structural components, basic welding rods are often used. Using acidic welding rods is more economical than using basic welding rods, and acidic welding rods should be prioritized as long as they meet the performance requirements.
